Marlin Golden 39A "Mountie"

I picked up this rifle about three years ago. It's in great shape. I called Marlin and they told me it was made in 1966. I have two questions.
1. What is the approximate value of it?
2. Would value be adversly affected by re-finishing the stock and forearm?

Thanks,

Rodger

I checked a couple of editions of "Gun List".
Saw them listed at $275-300 used in 99%
condition.
At this time, there's probably little
collectors' interest in the model. But since
the "Mountie" has been discontinued, who
knows what will happen when people realize
what an excellent carbine it is/was.

As for the stock refinishing; I'll defer to
some one else.

My first firearm was a Marlin Mountie. Bought
it used in the early sixties at age thirteen. Paid $45.00 for it. Had a Williams
receiver sight. Used to ride to my friend's
house with it slung across the handlebars of
my bicycle. No one gave me a second glance.
One day I'll own another one. Fine .22 and
a lot of great memories.

Don't see many Mounties around. I picked one up a couple years ago dirt cheap. Reason was it had the worst rebluing job you could imagine. Wife loves it though! We go to the range and she always ends up with it after just a mag or two through the AR and 10/22. She thinks it's the neatest gun ever. The rear sight didn't even have the ramp in it when we bought it. Doesn't need it. Dead on. I don't give her any lip anymore
