I am looking for a carbine which shoots pistol ammo (9mm or .45 ACP). I know HK is too expensive. I targeted marlin camp carbine or ruger PC9. I'd like to hear your experience about these two carbines. Thanks

Ok, I have shot the camp carbine, but not the Ruger. Here is what I have observed so far. Perhaps someone who has shot the Ruger can give you more info.

Marlin Camp Carbine -
Pro: Accurate, light, handy. You can use the same scope bases as the Marlin model 336/30 series rifles; they take hi-cap S&W 5900 series mags; genuine fun to shoot. Available in 9mm and .45 ACP.
Con: Out of production (NOT for political reasons, sales were slow, as per Marlin), not quite worth the $350 or so people want for them, Cannot use +P ammo safely. No .40 Auto version.

Ruger:
Pro: available with ghost ring sights, accurate (I am told), handy. Takes hi-cap Ruger pistol mags, apparently can handle +P ammo. Still in production.
Cons: Expensive ($450+), fairly heavy. Avilable in 9mm and .40 Auto only.

If Ruger makes a .45ACP version and ten round mags, I will get a Ruger.

I was looking through the manual for my PC9 and cant find anything about feeding +P through it. Everyone tells me its not a problem though. Really is a fun gun to shoot. Accurate, can take preban mags...only complaints are the weight, and lack of scope mounts on the market. I found one in brownells for $45....this seems to be the only one out there

Of the two, the Ruger is more durable and can absorb more abuse. Beyond basic field stripping, it can be tricky to disassemble. A major disadvantage of the Ruger is the weight. Everyone I spoke with agrees that Ruger should have used a locking system as opposed to blowback. That would have shave about 1 plus pounds off of it.

The Ruger PC9 (Politically Correct 9)is a pretty good deal. fairly accurate----well, ok, pretty darn accurate. Reliable---every one I've seen has functioned without a hitch. The 9 I played with truly LOVED Gold Dot 115gr. +P+. The 40 in my opinion is a better gun unless you shoot the superhot subgun stuff out of the 9. The marlin .45acp uses 1911 magazines---a HUGE plus if you use one of those, and 15rnd mags are still availible. I've seen them for around 200 dollars.

PC stood for "Police Carbine" and the first ones were rollmarked as such. However, because of the "PC" climate, it was changed to PC.

The Ruger can be modified to accept Glock mags, also. I might get one because of this fact. I forget who does the conversions, but I have read that they work great. Those 30 round after market Glock mags are all over the place (outside of CA, of course.)

I have a smith 5904 and multiple mags so I went with the Marlin. Good accuracy, lightweight and fun to shoot but the brass is spread over a large area. I thought about the Ruger but my mini-14/30 accuracy info said no.

I dont know about you but my PC9 did NOT come with rings. And that scope mount built into the receiver is only for Ruger rings. What i was referring to was the lack of ruger to weaver style adapters/scope bases. Sorry for the wrong terminology.

"Any experience with high point?"

Complete POS. Unreliable in feeding.
Cannot accept mags over 10 rounds.
That's what you get for $100.*

*Ok, I just realized that you can get an SKS for around that much, you know what I mean.
