Marlin Camp 9/45 Stocks

Hi All, I hope this is the right place for this.

For anyone intersted I am gaging peoples interest in getting a laminate stock for the Marlin Camp 9 and 45 carbines. There are a lot of people out there who have cracked or broken stocks and currently there is only an expensive plastic option. If you are interested please reply here or send me a PM and I will add you to the list that I have gathered from other forums.

I am not saying they have to be thumbholes or even the color in the pictures but at least something.

I'm kinda surprised no one was interested in this.

I was able to gather a stock for a pettern and enough people on other sites to get this almost a done deal at Boyds. Just to post an update however as it looks like this will happen. If anyone is interested PM me and I give you the details.

camp carbines are notorious for having weak recoil springs and brittle recoil buffers that shatter, causing cracked stocks. I replaced the buffer with a blackjack buffer and upgraded the spring after the buffer in my almost new condition carbine shattered the buffer after being fired for the first time after 20 years of storage.

The buffer came apart in pieces that looked like small pieces of gravel and the stock cracked just above the wrist area behind the back of the reciever.

They are great rifles, but that one easily corrected design flaw must be upgraded ASAP if you're going to shoot it.

Jolly,
I see that you originally posted back in February. I was wondering if there was any progress in obtaining a source for replacement Marlin .45 stocks.

I am definitely interested. I have one that has not cracked yet, and I did take the precaution of replacing the spring with the Wolff 21 lb spring, and adding a replacement buffer.

But, I'd love a better stock, even if mine isn't cracked, especially a laminated stock as pictured (although in pepper gray color).

If there is any update, please let me know.

Thank you!

What's the cost going to be on these new laminated thumbhole stocks? I have a Camp 45 but it doesn't get much use. Not sure I really NEED a new stock, but I'm open to suggestions, especially if the price is right.

Just an update since I continue to get PM's on this subject. The stocks are listed at Boyds now. We were successful in getting them offered. Details are there. $75 unfinished but that's normal and personally how I like it since i can finish my own how I like. Just a heads up on the two assembly screws. They do not come with the stock. People are ordering them from Numrich and they are not the correct part. Check out the post below.

A follow up to my previous post. You can order the action correct screws and bushings directly from Marlin. The phone number is 18005448892. The part number for the bushings is 416452 and the description is Takedown Action Bushing Front and Rear (they are the same part). The action screws are part number 316090 and 316190 respectively.

My Camps (9 and 45) are like new, but thanks to this thread I have learned about the potential for cracking the stocks. I have ordered the Blackjack buffer w/ 21# recoil spring for both of them. While those are certainly very nice looking stocks, I think I'll stick with the factory stock for now.

Once again, TFL has helped educate a fellow shooter. Thanks to everyone.
