Marlin Camp 45 Trigger Group Malfunction

Hello Folks,

Tore into my Camp 45 today after putting 150 rounds through it yesterday. Hadn't fired it in three or four years and loved it at 25 and 50 yards. Replaced the recoil spring during disassembly.

Now here's my issue...after disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, my trigger group will not function. With the safety on or off...no trigger action. I can't think of a single thing I did to it to cause this. As I typically do, I DIDN'T disassemble it. Simply wiped it down with cleaner and lubed. From what I understand, a guy doesn't want to take the trigger assy apart anyway without some time and experience with it. The bolt and lock back work great. Racks a round and extracts fine. That new 22 lb. spring is a beast.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks,
Bill

If you took it out, without disassembling, in my view, you should disassemble it.
Big chance some dirt or other particle went in whilst cleaning it.
Get instruction/exploded view before disassembly, and be aware of spring jumping out.

Empty Mag...Empty Brain

You know...I placed a full mag in to ensure it would feed and eject rounds. I manually charged and the weapon extracted all 11 rounds. Since I was in the garage in my suburban home, I was careful NOT to test the trigger during this process. Please tell me I'm not dumb enough to not have cleared the weapon and attempted to squeeze the trigger with an empty mag.

Out of town now. I have a feeling I'll be thanking you and wiping the egg off my face tomorrow when I get home.

Are all the new guys this stupid?

Well...guess what...

Got to the garage this afternoon. Slapped an empty mag in, locked back the bolt, removed the mag, charged the empty chamber, replaced the empty mag, took off the safety, squeezed the trigger...and to my amazement it went "click".
Thanks guys. I was really getting po'd.

Bill

much better safe than sorry - remember the 2 loudest sounds in the world, click when it should band and bang when it should go click. I have a Marlin Camp .45, fine little rifle, check out 'practical_carbine' , yahoo groups.

Thanks Marlin - will check out the yahoo group. I did forget how much fun that little gun is to shoot. Have you had issues with your stock cracking? Heard and read about it, but don't know where to start looking. Advice? BTW, just now crawled out from under my rock folllowing my empty mag debacle. Nice to see the sun again.

welcome back to the world, yes I had a stock crack when I loaded some hot rounds and shot in it. Marlin replaced FOC. I've since found the Trapper spring site that sells heavy recoil springs and purchased. an absloute neccesity for this carbine as the factory spring is only 11 pounder. replace with the 16 or for heavy hot loads the 21 pounder.

Camp 45

I bought an extra stock, new in box, but never had to use it. Folding stocks can also be found. Bigger springs are a good idea. The bolt of this gun weighs nearly a pound. I went through mine completely, down to the last spring, and "reliable-ized" it by careful polishing. Mine has a Trijicon sight and I think it's an ideal carbine for home defense.

Ledbetter

I have both the 9 and 45 and yes they are very good home defense and would do good for away from home as well. the longer sight radius aids accuracy for the pistol calibers and adds some velocity which I have enhanced with handloads. I dissassemled the trigger group in my .45 (have to use pins to put back together) and did some careful polishing to help the let-off. plan on doing the same to my 9 when time permits. after quite a bit of testing accuracy seems best with the Hornady 200 gr. C/T slug and Golden Saber Rem. 185 gr. at about a factory load level. pushing them faster opens groups up some. really like mine, a real fun gun to plink with and good for 'yotes and feral hogs. some trouble to take down for a good cleaning tho have to be careful with the feed ramp position and that small spring that fits the bolt lock..

Torch, I took it ALL apart and polished the hammer and sear among other things. I had a page with an exploded view at the time.
