I just picked up two used ones the other day. They have both been totally reliable in the limited testing that i've done. Accuracy is good as well. The main reason for my purchase was to have a suppressor installed. Good luck finding one as they are rather scarce and when you do find one the cost is pretty steep. Kind of amazing as to when they were available nobody wanted one but as soon as they went out of production they became very popular. Most of the ones in good condition go for around $400. I am surprised that Ruger doesn't make one in .45 in their PC model.
I have a like-new .45 Camp Carbine, pre-checkering when they really looked good. Perfect reliability with ball ammo, and accurate. Really handy and balanced. Bought it when I was using mainly .45 handguns. Should sell or trade it but can't make myself do so. L
Mine is accurate and totally reliable with ball ammo and 230gr. Hydra-Shoks. I've not tried any other JHPs in it.
I read an article in Machine Gun News years ago about a gunsmith who converted these carbines to accept Para-Ordnance mags. That's the only modification I'd care to make to mine.
They are great carbines, I would reccomned getting one if you can find one. I have found mine ot be extremely reliable and accurate, even with lead bullets. When you get it, put a red dot on it. The red dot makes the Camp 45 a great fast shooting carbine and increases the fun factor.
Does anyone know where I can buy a Camp 45? My orginal source has dryed up, and I "think" I've searched most of the online gun dealers(gunbroker, AuctionArms, GalleryOfGuns, etc.
Fun guns, but I had a few additional experiences with my own .45 ACP Camp Carbine.
1. Accurate, even with hard cast 200gr SWC's.
2. The brass gets ejected damn near as far as the bullet.
3. Straight blowbacks get awfully dirty.
4. Takedown on the little Marlin is no fun whatsoever.
5. You still gotta clean the damned thing...
6. My Marlin's plastic trigger and lockwork was heavy, and didn't allow for any adjustment.
