Marlin 81 (Mostly) Won't Fire

The details are easier. It's a tube-fed, bolt action .22lr rifle I got in a trade. (It might be a DL. There are NO model markings on the barrel.)

In any case, loaded the tube with a half dozen rounds or so, chambered one, and it fired. Put the bolt through its paces and the spent round ejected and the new one loaded. Blot appears to close fine. Pull the trigger and all I hear is "click." The round doesn't fire. None of the next rounds do. I reloaded to see if it was something to do with the first round only but no more rounds fired after that.

If anyone has a clue I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

remove the bolt and dissassemble it and clean out the firing pin channel and firing pin and spring. Not sure where to find the takedown instructions though.
It should be very similar to the model 80, which is in J B Woods Gun digest book "Assembly/dissassembly vo lll rimfires.

Take a look at the rounds that did not fire. Is there a good indentation on the rim from where the firing pin struck it? If not check for broken firing pin or as stated befor diss assemble and clean.

It did fire that first round so I have hopes the firing pin is intact. But I'll break it down this afternoon and clean and oil everything. Thanks!
