Marlin 60 ejection problem

I have a well used Marlin 60 that I just gave to my son for a first rifle. The problem is that while when it was new, it would digest any and all ammo w/o a burp. It now is getting finicky and is begining to stove pipe on a regular basis. I am thinking that some of the springs may be getting weak, so I just ordered a new recoil and a new ejector lift spring from Brownells. My question is, do you think that the extractors, pins and extractor springs should be replaced also? The pins are tiny. Do you just drift them out? The extractors will hold a round in place, unsupported, with the bolt out of the rifle.
On last thing. The end profiles of the extactors are different. The one nearest the ejection port is nice and sharp. The one to the inside does not seem to have much of a hook. I can't tell from diassembly pictures if this is correct. It looks as though it is designed this way to cause ejection to the right and out of the ejection port. If no, then it is seriously worn.
Thanks, in advance, for any advice.

its right

What you described is correct. I would make sure you clean it very well first and then make sure the mouth of the chamber doesn't have a burr on it. You might give it a good chamfer using a knife blade and scraping the mouth at an angle with the blade. From there, I would go back and make sure the extractor is allowing the round to come up onto the bolt face correctly. It may need to have it's lower front lip chamfered as well.

I would suspect the rest is ok if you get it cleaned up well. The mainspring nor the ejector should have much to do with the round not feeding correctly. This is normally due to dirt and grime behind the extractor and or bad extractor hook or fit or a bad magazine, but since yours is a Marlin, that shouldn't be the problem. I would however spray out the magazine and clean up the spring and tip of the rod. Good luck with it.

Marlin Mad. 60

Dear Shooter:
As usual CNTRYBOY1289 is right on!
One other problem I've had with the 60 is the ejector (little wire looking thing in the left side of port) might need bending out just a little - but, I think a good cleaning like CNTRYBOY1289 says is most probably the culprit!

You might want to try greybeardoutdoors.com they have a forum just for Marlins and numerous posts about your problem if you go back and read older posts on site to look for them. Have a similiar problem with my Marlin 22, but a really good cleaning did not help me and no burr on my chamber. Think I solved my problem with a needle file, but havn't shot the Marlin to confirm this.

60

My $.02, my model 60 was used when i got it in '85, since then i've put ? 20,000 rounds throught it, and whenever i had problems a good cleaning fixed it.

Another area to check is the extractor slots in the end of the barrel, they tend to fill up with gunk, i use a small, slightly bent pick to get in there and clean most, then soak and scrub with small brush. While bolt is out of gun, go outside and hose down bolt with brake cleaner REAL good, scrub with old toothbrush, apply a few drops of oil and reassemble gun.:D

GO shoot!;)
