Marlin 60 cocking problem

Working on a Glenfield 60. Got it cleaned and back together and went for a test fire. Fired and cycled as expected but the trigger did not reset. If it is hand cycled, it ejects the bullet and reloads the next round and fires, cycles and again no trigger.

In hand cycling it looks to set the trigger first. How can it cycle a bullet and not set the trigger?

Any help please

Thanks Scorch for the reply. I disassembled the action again. I can't see how I could put the disconnect spring in wrong. It has a hole in the release and a hole in the side plate. Could I have over oiled it. It is a very old rifle but nothing looks worn beyound function.

Mine was doing that once and I traced the problem to a broken recoil buffer. It's a plastic part and will require replacement at some point in the rifle's lifetime if you shoot it enough.

Mine was an obvious problem in that when I disassembled the gun the buffer fell out in 3 pieces. Was yours perhaps worn enough to make a difference, but not worn enough to be obvious when you disassembled?

I didn't want to report back not having fixed it. But I am. The buffer pad is OK not great but not broken. The disconnect spring is doing its job Holding up the sear lever. I thought it was a lack of engagement and sharpened the contact points. No joy. The sear spring looked tweaked. I straightened it. No joy. Could the bolt spring be week? I wouldn't think so.

THinking,

Bruce
