Marlin 49 failure to feed

Hi all! This is my first post, so here goes. I was recently given a Revelation 150m (Marlin 49) by a friend of mine who was cleaning out his gunsafe and no longer wanted it. It's not in bad shape, the finish is worn but the stock and barrell are good. The internals are all in real good shape as well, except for the 20 years or so of gunk I had to clean out of it. Here's the problem: It won't feed rounds for anything. It constantly jams with only the occasional round feeding through. The round almost overshoots the chamber completely catching and jamming on the lip. I have tried CCI Stinger, Velocitor and Mini Mag so far. As well as a cheap box of Federal something-or-others. Are these picky rifles? Also, the barrell does move slightly up and down, just enough to feel it shift. Could this be the part of the problem? I'm just getting into rifles other than bolt actions and know next to nothing about rimfire so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

take a stab at it

I would double check and make sure the barrel retaining pin is in the gun still. If the barrel moves on you, that may be part of the problem. I would also make sure to chamfer the chamber mouth using a knife blade at about a 30-45* angle. Just use the knife to shave away the sharp lip. If this doesn't help with the chambering issues, i would take it to a smith and let him take a look at it. Good luck with it.
