Marlin .410 questions

A co worker came to me and asked about a Marlin 60 g .410 bolt action shotgun. It was his grandpa's but somehow when he was moving last time the barrel got bent.

At work most people think I know everything about guns, so they always come and ask, but this one, I don't know anything about.

Does anyone know where he can get another barrel? A quick search online that I did came up with nothing. Any one know anything about this one?

Sounds like someone has a nice candidate for an heirloom wall hanger. Assuming your search was comprehensive, your coworker's only option may be a barrel specialist who'll undertake straightening the existing barrel or custom fitting a blank to the action. In either case, fixing a .410-bore bolt action gun isn't worth the expense unless justified by sentimental reasons. Bolt action shotguns are poor at best. They typically represent the lowest cost repeating shotgun possible. Your co-worker's grandpa was a cheapskate.

I know I'm being over critical of bolt action shotguns, but I've got due cause. My initial long arm training was sponsored by the government and focused on the M1 rifle. As is often the case, my first experience with a shotgun was with a borrowed 12-ga pump gun at a skeet field. I was hooked the first time out. The next time, I borrowed a different shotgun, a Sears bolt action. The feather weight 20-ga kicked worse than a 12-ga, the back of the bolt recoiled into my face and broke my nose. Yes, I'm a little prejudiced against bolt action shotguns.

You'll probably find - that finding a replacement barrel is going to be tough / and more than the whole gun is really worth. Not to offend your buddy - but it isn't a high dollar / or collectors gun. Its a gun that has come down in his family ...important to him probably ...and it is, what it is.

I think the best thing to do / is to watch the auction sites - sales sites like guns america - and your buddy might find another gun for sale. He can buy the gun / then replace the barrel on grandpa's gun. Or he can just hang it over the fireplace ...as is.

I have a bolt action 16ga ...given to me as a kid. Its in decent shape ...maybe worth $ 25 - $50 on a good day .....

good thought publius ....none of us really asked how bad / where is it bent ....?? ( still working on my first latte ...) gotta wake up ...

My first year of small game hunting was with a J.C. Higgins bolt action 410, it was a piece of junk, when you fired it the tube came apart and you had to look for the parts and put it back together, so I just left those parts at home and used it as a single shot..........stegmaier
