Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knows any info on a rifle my girlfriend just inherited. It belonged to her greatgrandfather. The barrel has the markings MODEL 336-A-30-30 CAL----A. On the other side of the barrel there is the markings JM. The serial # begins with H51###. I would appreciate any info on the history of the rifle not so much what it is worth. :)

Her 24" barrel, 2/3 magazine, rifle was made in 1951; the JM is the Marlin proofmark.

The model was first introduced in 1948 in .30-30 & .32 Special, then the .35 Rem in 1950 - in both a standard version and a deluxe checkered version, and discontinued in 1962.
It was then re-introduced for 1973-80.

.

Thanks a bunch Pete. Now I am going to try and find out if he was the original owner. Its kind of interesting seeing how far an old gun has come
