Marlin 336 Models?

Is there a significant difference between the 336A and the 336W lever rifles (.30-30)? The 336W comes with a sling. See, I'm gonna get one of these, but I've decided to start buying KEEPERS. I want a rifle that'll last me years and years. Will a $269 Marlin 336W from Wal-Mart be that rifle for me?

The main difference between them is that a 336C has a walnut stock while the others have hardwood stocks. I have a 336C that is just beautiful. If you are looking for "keepers" I would sugest that you get the 336C---I think you'll be happier in the long run.

336C---that is the W and A models are considered more of the value series-----solid guns---but the hardwood stocks make them nothing special-----spend the extra money and get a 336C

Hmmm...

How much for a stainless? I'll have to have a dealer order it from the factory. May as well get the stainless, if I'm going to order it from the factory. The only ones they have in stores around here are the 336A and the 336W.

I have a question, also. If, later on, the stock gets worn and I decide to replace it, can I order a new Walnut stock and put it on the rifle, as opposed to just getting the hardwood stock refinished?

Although...if the only difference is the stock, and I get the cheaper model, I'll have more money left over to get a scope mount and the peep sight installed...

Another question!!

I want BOTH a Marlin 336 and an 1894P (16", .44 Mag) in my Keepers collection. I'm assuming a good 336C and the 1894P will cost about the same, so once I get get the money saved up, which model should I get? I'm going to scope the .30-30, so I've decided no peep sight for now. The .44 Maggie will be my little "thumper"...hehe...
