Marlin 336 in .350 Rem.

I have an opporunity to buy this rifle, and am seeking comments on both the capability of the cartridge and the relative value (gun is about 95-98%) of the firearm.

Thanks.

Do you mean 35 Remington? It's in the woods deer category alongside a few other good ones like the 44 Magnum and 30/30. I would pay around $250 for a gun in that condition, but that's just me. Amunition availability will be the only downside.

Actually, the Marlin in .350 Remington Magnum would be a great idea, but the lever gun would never stand up to the pressure.

I've got one of these in the safe right now. Don't shoot it much but it's well thought of around these parts. Used to see quite a few hunting in the Ozarks.

Friend of mine had both a Marlin 336 .35 Remington, and a Remington 660(?) in .350 Rem. Mag.

The Rem. Mag. was a FEROCIOUS little SOB!

He started loading the .350 down to midway between .35 and .350. It tamed the thing right down, gave much better accuracy, and resulted in an exceptional deer and bear gun.

If I needed a short rifle/cartridge combo for bear protection, the .350 would be very high up on the list.

But, back to the Marlin .35 Rem. Great gun, very good cartridge for shooting deer out to about 150 yards, and bear up to about 125. Much past that and the trajectory becomes really loopy.

I'll never understand why Savage never chambered their 99 in .35 Remington. It would have been a beautiful match back in the 1930s.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Bob, If you can get it below $200, I'd drive there to buy it. Yes, it's a great deal. It should serve all of your deer needs up to and including Mule at close range or white-tail out to about 200-250 yards depending on your skill. More consistant expansion than 30/30 and shoots flatter than the 44.

Mike, I've got several guns in 358 Winchester, a 35 Remington AND a Remington 660 in 350. I second what you say about the ferocity of my little 'punk gun,' but I am not recoil sensative. I've got a Scout Scope on the 660 and it performs well on Moose and Bear in Alaska. I still trust the 35 on any deer though. As for downloadign the 350, you end up with the functional equivelant of a 358 Winchester. That's not a bad thing. :)

Good Hunting.
