Marlin 30AS

Hey all. Have a quick question for ya. My brother in law wants to sell a few firearms to fund an AR purchase. One which I may be interested in is the bare-bones Marlin 30as. My dad already has a 336 that my grandpa had which is being passed down...great looking vintage gun with the nice checkered American walnut. But, this is a bit shorter and it has the spur trigger and a heavier barrel with the "micro groove" rifling, but not really sure what that means...tighter grooves for supposedly better accuracy? Anyways, I was perusing the various auction sights and the prices seem to be hovering around the 200-300 dollar range. The 300 dollar guns usually included a scope mounted, however. He says there have been approximately 7 boxes of ammo shot through it. Its in really nice/excellent condition with a few dings and scratches. Want to offer a fair price, so was thinking of offering 200. Sound fair?

$200. to $225. is fair for a 30AS.

Marlin's microgroove rifling has been around for many decades. Its a shallower style but has more grooves. Typically, a Marlin shoots slightly higher velocity than other rifle brands which is a testament to effective gas seal behind the bullet as it travels down the barrel.

Good shooting to you.

Jack

Good deal. Thanks for the information about the microgrooving, Jack. It's a term that sounded a little "modern" to me...interesting to find its been utilized for a while.
