Marlin 30AS -- First Lever Gun

I just acquired a used Marlin 30AS. How can one figure out the age of the gun? Also, to what can the recoil of the 30-30 out of this 30AS be compared? I have shot 12 ga.(Win. 1300), 20 ga. (NEF Pardner), and .223 (NEF Handi-Rifle) quite a bit. Thanks a lot!!

Its been a while since I shot a .30-30 levergun, but If memory serves, it'll be more than your .223 and less than your 20ga.
