Marlin .22 magnum

Bottom Gun

Just wanted to say that I'm very pleased with a rifle I picked up at WalMart the other day. It's a Marlin stainless bolt action with composite stock in .22 magnum. It's clip fed and has Williams "Fire Sights". It's a great little rifle for the money. They are selling them for $188 here in Arizona.
I was pleased with the accuracy of this rifle and even happier with the "Fire Sights". This is my first experience with these sights. They're just the ticket for tired old eyes like mine.
Considering some of the new .22 magnum ammo now available, this gun is definitely worth having a look at if you're in the market for a good turkey or short range varmint rifle.
Just my two cents.

Bottom Gun

I have a Marlin 882 .22 magnum bolt action rifle. It wears an inexpensive Kasnar 4x scope, and it is a sweet shooter. I took a fall turkey here in PA last year with a neck shot from 60 yds. It loves Winchester .22 magnum ammo.

I have one of these too. I love it. I've mounted a cheap scope and I have a lot of fun shooting clay tragets at 100 yds. We bust the clays and then bust the pieces. ( I have know idea what kind of MOA that is, but it is fun)

I shot one about 2 years ago. Put 3 shots on top of each other at 50 yards. I have been thinking about getting one ever since then (I shot the Wood one)

These rifles are good out past 200 yd. I've thought about scoping it, but hate to give up these neat "Fire Sights". I think I'll just leave it alone for a while.

I have a Marlin 22mag and I shot it out to 200yds for the first time last week. I got 7rds in a 7inch group at 200yds. It only dropped about 14inches and I bet I could have a chance of hitting a ground hog at that distance. Not a clean kill though.
Its the first Gun I ever owned and I really like it. I don't take it out shooting very much though. I can shoot quarter size groups without fail.

I still wonder when they are going to improve this caliber. Some of the 22lr rounds are claiming they can exceed 1600fps and most 22mags are in the 1900-2100fps range. I bet they could get those 22mags up to 2500fps if some company wanted to.

Some lighter bullets are appearing on the market now. CCi sells a 30 gr .22 mag they call "TNT".
The muzzle velocity is supposed to be quite a bit higher than the 40 gr loads.
I haven't had a chance to test any yet but I can't help but wonder if the 40 gr won't have more energy out past 100 or 150 yd.

I'm glad this thread came up. I've never shot a .22 magnum but a guy at work has a Marlin .22 magnum he says he'd like to sell to me. He says he's never shot it and it's just been sitting in his closet since before he got married. Only thing I know about it is it's a mag fed bolt action with a bull barrel and it has a matte black finish with a polymer stock, no sights, and it's drilled and tapped for a scope but no scope comes with it. I have no idea which model it is. Sounds like it would be a neat little shooter and I'd consider buying it IF he ever brings it in for me to look at.

Anybody have an idea which model this might be what it's worth?
