Marlin 17VSFL information?

Deja vu

I had a Remington 597 17HMR (which was recalled) for a long time and finanly decided to call Remington and see if I could exchange it for a 17HMR bolt action.

The one they are trading it for is a Marlin VSFL which is a bolt action 17HMR with a laminate stock and a stainless barrel.

The thing I want to know is if any one has any experience with how they shoot and how reliable they are... It should not be any worse than the 597 was.

I would also like to know the difference in the 17VSFL and the 17VSL

Not familiar with the VSFL but I had a Marlin 917V that was accurate enough but had poor QC. The scope base mounting holes were drilled off center to the bore. Took trying several bases and ring combinations to get it to where you could sight in the scope without running out of adjustment... The trigger was also extremely heavy, especially for a rimfire. It broke at well over 6 lbs of pressure....

I sold it and bought a Savage 93R17 BVSS and haven't looked back. It's more accurate, better looking (at least to me), and has the accutrigger which is a superb trigger.

I would see if Remington will give you money for your 597 and then put a little extra with it and upgrade to a better rifle...

Here are the options I was given.

Remington has 4 options, They would not Budge so I went with #3.

1. A Coupon for $250.00 for the ones with a laminate stock. (the gun cost me 499.99 when I bought it). It has to be spent on another Remington Product.

2. Re-chamber the 597 to a 22 mag

3. Exchange it for the above gun.

4. let me keep the gun with a warning not to shoot it ever again.

I Was looking up the gun on line and it is in the grey laminae stock with Stainless steel mettle. It looks pretty... I hope mine is better in the QC department than yours was.
