Why in the world would anyone want to pack around all that steel? That long barrel doesn't "shoot farther" or "hit harder" or "throw a tight pattern at 70 yards". You can do the same job with a 28" or 30" barrel and have a gun that is much lighter and balances better. The pattern that a shotgun throws is a function of the amount of choke and the load being used which is why a shooter should use a pattern board to determine which load gives the best pattern from his gun.
