marlin 120 long tom

I have a marlin 120 pump with a 40" barrell that I bought for goose hunting the year before the steel shot mandate. I have never seen another 120 with the long barrell and was wondering if anyone on the forrum may have seen or have one and how rare is this shotgun?

Why in the world would anyone want to pack around all that steel? That long barrel doesn't "shoot farther" or "hit harder" or "throw a tight pattern at 70 yards". You can do the same job with a 28" or 30" barrel and have a gun that is much lighter and balances better. The pattern that a shotgun throws is a function of the amount of choke and the load being used which is why a shooter should use a pattern board to determine which load gives the best pattern from his gun. Ya I don't pack it, I carry an Ithica 37 with 28" barrel or an 835 with a 26" barrel. But, I do think these older guns with long barrel are kind of novel and was trying to find info on the 120 in particulary. But thanks just the same old goat.;)
