"Marksman Repeater"

When I was nine I ended up with a "Crossman Marksman Repeater" repeating BB gun. I had not asked my parents and I got it through some conniving means.
My mom quickly found out I had it and it disappeared along with my ability to leave the house for a period of time.

I of course forgot about this long ago, apparently so did my mom. Doing some spring cleaning she found it stashed in the pantry and I ended up with it for Easter.

THe thing, which I thought was amazing 15 or so years ago, is a total POS.
I loaded it up and it only picks up a bb about half the time. Most of the time it does not pick up a bb and fires blank, terrible for a springer. It seems if i hold it upright while pumping the slide like pump it seems to work better, but still not great. Thinking about trading it for a Jennings 22.

Any ideas?

Them things couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from inside... Much like a lorcin/jennings/bryco...:D From 10 feet if you hit an aluminum can, it rarely penetrated the first side let alone both...

I decided it looks a lot like a 1911 and it might make a nice training gun with a little modification. Deactivated it. Been filing it since my last post. Realized I have a grinding wheel.

The wheel's probably ok, just clogged.

Get a really coarse, cheap, sharpening stone, and run the grinder using the stone to scrape off the buildup.

The way it picks up the bb is you cock it, then point it up and shake/twist it. So if you were expecting it to pick up the bb without doing that, then it's no wonder you were having problems.

I have a couple of these and the older all-metal one is "reasonably" accurate if you compensate for the sights being off (at least they are off at 15' ranges). I suspect that at 25' they might be right on...

The one that is mixed metal/plastic seems to shoot all over the map...

I had a "Marksman" handgun when I was a kid. I don't recall the model. It looked like a browning High Power; you pulled back on a slide to work the spring, then tipped the barrel open to load, snap it shut and fire!

It was a lot of fun, not terribly accurate though. A lot of times it would key-hole, even with larger "darts."

Ah here I go defending the freakin Jennings again.

Ya ought to trade the air gun for the Jennings, which is an actual real live firearm, and you might wind up with a good one (good for a Jennings) like I did.

Many of the Jennings foes have never had one, and if they did, apparently had problems that they couldn't deal with. Could happen with any gun, especially a cheap, er I mean inexpensive gun that is picky about the ammo that ya feed it..

My Jennings is giving me pleasure still, and until the slide hits me between the eyes, I'll defend it. jd
