Marks on the black finishing (how to remove)?

Hi

last week I bought a S&W 586 revolver. But if one has a closer look on the black finishing you can see very very little scratches on the surface of the revolver and I asked myself if there is any chance to remove these scratches??? On the picture you can see the 586 but it's not mine because I don't have a cam to take a picture but I have the same finishing.

thx

The black finish is really a dark blue. Bluing is a form of rust and it's just a very thin layer on the metal. If it's scratched thru the bluing then nothing can be done about it except refinishing. There are touch up kits, but getting the touch up to match the rest of the gun is generally impossible. You can try polishing the revoler with a metal cleaner/polish, but usually you have to live with the scratches once you get them.

Majic is right. It's one reason not to buy a blue gun. I suggest that you don't look too closely at it. It'll only make you sad.
