Marking my ammo box's with mailing labels

I have a fairly good (not great) amount of ammo that has some value, and would be a big loss if somebody broke in (if I wasn't home) and stole it all.

It would be a good score for a thief, and a bad loss for me, especially with the current environment.

So, last time I took a trip (Can't take it with you), I remembered these companies sending me hundreds of mailing stickers with my name and address for post returns for free to get my business.

So I put a label on every box, so, if they were ever stolen and these stupid's ever got caught with my ammo, I might have a chance of getting it back. I know there might be a set back for doing this, but I thought it was a pretty good idea.

A good 15 minute investment. Actually about an hour because I distributed the ammo through out the house so it would have been like an Easter egg hunt.:D

That's kind of along the lines of marking your tools at work so you can recover them when they get stolen.

I would just be worried that the thief that steals your ammo now has someone else that can get sued for their actions should they decide to shoot someone with your stolen ammo.

They could even say you sold it to them.

The civil legal system often just goes fishing for who has the least money or provided legal resources to defend themselves and hooks that person.

If you are that worried about your ammo, you might be better served by buying a gun safe, screwing it to a wall or floor and attaching a alarm to it.

The theifs would probably just peel the labels off, before selling your ammo. I too have a good amount of ammo, I just keep it in the lower portion of my safe. The safe is already too heavy for a theif to carry out and bolted. The ammo just adds a little more weight making it even more difficult to move.

Just like Wal-Mart has a chance of winning a case of suing someone for re-selling this ammo!

Its a good idea. If the labels dont peel off easily the perp would dump the rounds into a bag and it would greatly inconvenience him--anything but a cloth bag could rip pretty easily. PLUS if the crook is just stupid and leaves a box of your ammo in his car or with other stolen goods, you have a good chance of getting your stuff back if/when he gets arrested and the stolen goods found.

When the thief's share your ammo with your address on it they will know where to come back for more:eek::) I don't like anything floating around with my name on it.

well, i guess if you were lucky enough for the cops to find the criminals with your stuff in hand, after a long wait (for the"eveidence" to be used in the trial) you might get it back, or not. i can imagine that some places would destroy anything firearm related that was stolen, because of irrational policy. especially if you live in a large city. if you live out in the sticks, and have a pro-gun orientated local govt, you would probably get it back, if it did not turn up "missing" in the evidence lock up. my uncle lost 4 guns that way. supposedly, after the guns were used in court to covict the crooks, the cops lost them somehow, and he never got anything for them. somehow, they were not liable for the guns. i do not know why, or how they pulled that one off. that was back in the seventies.

As far as I'm concerned, most criminals aren't very smart, so I'd like to have at least a small chance of getting my property back.

Well I'm in Cali and some day Big Brother will mark all of my ammo for me! Just in case I loose it, "they" will help me find it!! :barf:

marking

get an electric pencil and mark the inside bottom of the box.the theif wont see it.
the cops are the biggest thiefs alive. I did get mine back but the cops were unhappy as they were told to give them back.and it used to be a LEO could go to balistics and they would for $10 give a LEO a piece for his own use.
