Mark X Identification

I've got an Interarms Mark X in 300 Win Mag. I am not sure which model, or style it is. How do I determine if it's a Viscount, Sporting Rifle, or something else?

I've attached a couple photos.

I am not even sure that is a Mark X RIFLE.
The caliber marking looks hand stamped on a flat spot. Maybe that is where the original caliber designation was.
I have not seen a Mark X stock anywhere close to that one, unstained and uncheckered.

I wonder if it is not a gunsmith project.

It looks to me like a Mark X barreled action that has been stocked by someone other than the factory. I had one, also a .300 Win, Mag. that had a low comb European style with schnable forend tip that was quite well done, was very accurate but the low comb socked me in the jaw every time I shot it. It has a stock in the same color as yours with some kind of shiny clear varnish as a coating. Sometimd I still kick myself for getting rid of it. :(
The stock looks like a decent piece of Maple and a bit of a rework on that cheek piece, remove the current finish, proprt staining of the word and a decent oil finish would make into a nice piece of work. Maybe spring for a checkering job as well. THat's whay I would do if it were mine.

Thanks for the feedback. That's kinda what I figured. So the "Viscount", "Sporting Rifle", etc. names don't really apply anymore, right? Those were based largely on the stock if I understand it right...

That isn't a Mark X/Interarms stock, and if I was a betting man that's a rechambered barrel. Probably was a take off .308 or .30-06 off of another LR Mauser that was installed and stamped on a milled flat spot. The stock could be something along the lines of a Herters or Bishop semi inlet that were very popular many years ago. I'd just have fun with it.

Well, I haven't shot it yet, so I'm eager to see how it does. It has a very bright bore with strong rifling. The action is smooth and the trigger seems crisp with very little movement(from my limited experience with firearms). Guess I should put a scope on it and put it to the test.
