Just looking at my newest Gun Magazine and saw this awesome pistol on the cover. Read the column and found myself drooling over the the pictures. Does anyone have more info on this customized 1911? Better yet does anyone have any expierence with this gun? Thanks EWB

No offense to Mark Morris, but I don't understand how ANY pistol (without collector value) can be worth $5000.

No kidding, how about SVI's titanium Tiki wonder for $6000- totally obscene.

Les Baer's custom engraved Thunder Ranch special is also like $5000.

That's the same thing I said when I got down to the bottom of the article. The Les Baer TRS's are nice too. Though I'd just go for the non-engraved one and save $4,000 bucks, and spend the rest on ammo and a good holster.
You still have to admit that Mark Morris CEG makes you wanna drool!!

I read the article and I thought that it looked really great, but for the $ you could take the gun of your choice and customize it in a similar fashion for a lot less.

In fact I have always wanted a dedicated night stand gun w/ light, and the Morris gun would be perfect. If it cost several grand less.

I don't know why anyone would want a compensator on a tactical gun as the blast and flash loses your sight picture and throws off your night vision in the dark.

I'm in the process of building a 10mm single stack entry gun for a possible magazine article that will have a Insight Technologies M# Illuminator on it. It should be pretty cool if I ever get off my lazy ass to finish it. Gun and light will be $1800.00.

I've seen some really nice, ultra cool 1911's in my life, but I've never seen one worth $5K. American Handgunner had one in there about a year ago that cost $10,000!

I thought it was pretty ridiculous myself. Mutation of a perfectly good M1911. Engraving is one thing, but that...well, I'll pass.

If I was inclined to spend that kind of money on a gun, it sure wouldn't be a handgun. Maybe an English-style magazine express rifle. Certainly not an M1911.

It's getting a little ridiculous out there. First, I would like to say that I've never heard any bad stories about Morris pistols. While I have no personal experience with his work, I understand it to be excellent from everything I've read.

That being said, I believe Mark Morris to be over-priced for what you get. You can get guns from other pistolsmiths that are more experienced and have longer track records for less money, not to mention the Wilson guns which are WAY less money and, in all likelihood, just as reliable. All I can say is Mark had better not be charging that kind of money for a single stack gun. No, and I repeat, NO single stack .45 can POSSIBLY be worth $5,000 unless it has historical/collector significance or some kind of special engraving work.

It's as if because Mark has gotten some special treatment in the gun press because of his relationship with Massad Ayoob and others, he feels he can now capitalize on it and charge accordingly. I guess I should say more power to him if people are willing to pay it. Right now I could name 10 guys who could probably house him in the skill department who are more reasonable regarding what they charge for their services.

I personally have had a high capacity custom Commander .45 built by Steve Nastoff on a Strayer-Voight frame that I would put up against any gun Mark ever built in his life. If my life depended on it, I would pick a Nastoff gun any day of the week. Nastoff may be a little on the prima donna side(which he himself would acknowledge), but he builds one hell of a gun and doesn't gouge you. That is just one example.

If I were to pay more than $3,000 for a gun, there are only a handful of guys in the world I would go to, and Mark isn't one of them. If you have your heart set on a single stack .45, get yourself a Wilson CQB and call it a day. You don't need anything else. If you want a high cap gun, do your homework and find out who the best guys are. If you just need a carry gun that is light weight and has the best capacity to weight ration in the biz, take a ride over to your local gun dealer and ask him to order you a Glock 19 or Glock 23 along with some pre-ban mags.

If you want a Glock in .45, it's Glock 30 time. You can ask Jim Cirillo about that particular gun if you have any questions. Jim's been in a slew of gunfights and he's killed more guys than smallpox(no bull%*&). The Glock 30 is his primary carry gun. He carries a Glock 27 as a backup.

If you want the absolute fastest and safest gun in existence, get yourself the HK P7 M13 or M8(or PSP). That gun will ablsolutely not fire unless that cocking strap is squeezed.

All of these guns will save your ass just as well as a Morris gun, and save you a lot of time and money to boot. If anyone out there disagrees with any of my advice, you have my full permission to let me have it.

I have to admit that if I were an instant dot com millionaire with money to burn, I'd be tempted to get one of those Morris pistols. But then there are a lot of other neat guns I'd buy first... :)

Own a heavily customized 1911 (Caspian frame and slide), got $3,000+ invested, just makes me feel good.

Pride of ownership, responsible for its looks and performance, gonna' die some day may as well splurge on at least one (okay, so I have 3 or 4 heavily customized stupidly expensive pistols) that ends up totally unique.

Besides, have you checked the prices of shotguns?
