What is the deal with these marine magnums. It looks like a typical 870 with nickel plating and they charge 3x the price? is it just the plating that is worth the money?

Naw - It's just that, once a year, it keeps you from having to throw away a blued/steel shotgun kept near saltwater, that's all.

Folks fail to realize that many yachts are climate controlled. My buddy owns a 43 footer and his carbon steel knives and guns in cubby holes have no rust...
Been there 6 years or so...:D

Many of us can't afford A/C for our 21" open fishing boats, aka "yachts", and a shotgun to finish off sharks, too ! ;)

870 Marine Magnum

My 870 has seen beach duty for many years with no rust corrosion or any other issues. I bought mine in the late 90's after going to work for a agency where I would be working the beach. I used a 870 Police prior to this and simply had to clean and maintain the weapon far more than anyone would like to prevent rust and corrosion. I literaly had to break down my Sig for light cleaning every night due to the salt spray. I switched to the Marine Magnum and Glocks for quite sometime with no issues whatsoever.

The extra money has been well worth it for me. I would have gone through several other shotguns by now if not for that weapon.

Mine still looks almost like new!

Wow i guess i never thought of other conditions. I thought it had to do with some sort of water proofing, maybe even fire under water..Interesting stuff..I always loved the look of the nickel and almost bought one as a HD weapon to hang on the wall but went with the 590a1 since it was 100$ cheaper
