Marine Magnum 870

I've had my 870 Marine Magnum for a few months now, I've been putting it through its paces and everything, but I've started to notice many small scratches on the inside of the barrel. Almost as if the rifles slugs were taking the finnish off the inside of the barrel on their way out. Is this normal for a new smoothbore shotgun?

What you're probably seeing is leading.

When you shoot slugs and some loads of shot, the lead leaves deposits on the bore.

Get a bronze 12 gauge shotgun cleaning brush and some bore solvent, and scrub the bore thoroughly.

Often the leading is hard to remove, so you may need to scrub a bit.

If after a GOOD cleaning, you still see marks, you might want to contact Remington for possible warranty repairs.

thanks, I'll give that a try and see if it works, but I don't think it will. Theres little white lines, and if you feel them, they feel like scratches...also pretty deep into the barrel.

I own a 870 Marine Magnum. I've shot rifeld slugs, buckshot, and #5 target loads. I use the Otis cleaning system and my bore is as smooth as a babys behind. Not to mention shiny. I had to send mine back to Remington because of it not pulling the shell out of the tube when I first got it.

Shiny as in shiny lead

It is not something to worry about clean the bore with a good bronze brush and some bore cleaner.

Swab it real good with a patch of your favorite bore cleaner and let it sit and then hit it a few times with the brush and then swab it again.

Then hit it with a clean patch a few times. Really.

It might have some marks, if you have been shooting steel shot without wadding, but not likly. Just because of the way they manufacture the shells.

When I first got my 870MM, I was shooting copper plated 000 buck out of it a lot. It looked like it had some pretty good marks down the barrel.

I Used Hoppes bore solvent, and they came right off. Aside from leading, I also had some copper fouling.

good luck! :D
