Anybody incorporate the MantisX into they dryfire/live fire practice?

I've seen many great reviews and the product seems great, but I'm a little hesitant to spend $150 on a dry fire tool.

For those of you who regularly use the product, What are your thoughts?

I have had the MantisX for about 3 months - bought it at Amazon. I really like it. Their support if you have questions is excellent and they update and add new features to the app on a regular basis. I use it often for dry fire and I am always trying to beat my best score! Also use it sometimes at the range for live fire.

Will you explain how it works in dryfire. I was initially under the impression when I first read about this was that it was basically a live fire (black box) if you will giving you feedback.

Does it “know” when the trigger breaks and records that moment? What about all the ancillary movement when dry firing (racking striker slides, cocking a hammer etc. etc. )

Thanks much.

In the app settings you specify dry fire or live fire, your gun, etc. When dry firing the MantixX module that is mounted on your gun detects the movement before, after and when the gun breaks. This data is transferred by Bluetooth to the smartphone app. Hope this helps.

Thank you both. I understood how it worked but was under the impression it was live fire only that it was able to evaluate.

It will work in either. Also with airsoft of CO2 pistols, with or without pellets loaded. The demo I did used an air pistol with a CO2 cartridge but no pellets. The system keyed off the CO2 blast, but it can be set up for dryfire as well.

Seems interesting. I figure I can either purchase 750-1,000 rounds of 9mm or the Mantis. I semi-regularly do the former, but have noticed my range time decrease as of late (working two jobs with a life to live takes time!).

I wonder if my next “ammo grab” should be a Mantis grab instead.

I guess the better question would be “is the tech worth it? Or are traditional dry fire methods ‘good enough’”

Thanks for the feedback!

If your dryfire practice is effective then you don't need a MantisX.

If you feel like you have reached a plateau/aren't progressing, and your slowfire groups with centerfire handguns are still unacceptable, then the MantisX might be a good way to reach the next level.

As a general reference, if your trigger technique is good, you should be able to consistently empty a centerfire handgun into fist-sized groups or better at 15 yards shooting slowfire.

My least accurate 9mm handgun, shooting a mix of different ammo all loaded into one magazine will still put all its shots into 4.5" at 15 yards. Anything significantly larger than that and trigger technique/anticipation is the culprit.

If you are not interested in using the Mantis for live fire, there are two less costly variants the don't cost as much as the Mantis X Elite. The latter can be used for both dry
and live fire.
