Mannlicher Shoenaeur (sic) conundrum

Found one, a MCA, in 243. Very nice specimen. Very nice. Would it be something that one would shoot regularly? Or would something like this be better kept as a collectible.

I am inclined to shoot the thing, but worry about finding spares in the event of a firing pin failure or the like.

Suggestions?

I don't think you'll have too difficult of a time finding spares as there are quite a few of these guns out there. I'd shoot it myself... not a lot, but it certainly wouldn't be a safe queen.

Have you visited the Mannlicher Schoenauer website?

Cheers,
C

Thanks Creeper. What sort of scope mount would you seek? What scope? I would like to get a 30 mm straight tube (no objective bell) type scope I think.

Is the rifle already drilled and tapped for Steyr mounts? If not, then what ever you want to D&T for. I think you can still get Redfield mounts... Griffin & Howe, Williams or Bausch & Lomb... I wouldn't hold your breath.

Most commercial M-S rifles & carbines had a removeable sideplate on the LH side of the action, that's exactly the same size of the proper (Redfield, IIRC) side mount base - so there's no need to disfigure a fine rifle with further/needless D/T-ing.

It is drilled and tapped in the front receiver ring, and on the left or port side receiver bridge. I looked for a side plate and didn't see any...

Then, this is the scope mount it takes:
