Mandate to rule?

Say Gore somehow glides into office on a trail of slime carefully squeezed out for him by the likes of Jackson, Daley, et al.

Would you feel compelled to obey laws signed by his administration or follow the dictates of any executive orders he might issue? Or would you simply ignore them and hope they go away and keep your head down? I was thinking about the licensing scheme for sidearms he proposed and it seems people stand for it on a state by state basis, yet there might be a lot of resistance to doing it on the national level, especially given that whoever the next Pres is will not have an easy time of making any rules stick, much less something like sidearm licensing. I can just see the good people of Idaho line up for that one! :D

Anyway, I don't think y'all have to give a concrete answer. I'm just trying to stimulate discussion beacause honestly, I have no idea what I'd do at this point and it looks as if we have a better-than-even chance that somehow, some way, Gore will be inserted into the Oval Office, even if they have to insert him rectally.

Is your desire to help others great enough to cause you to actually help them, or is it only great enough to compel you to force others to do so?

I don't obey executive orders anyway. As I am not an employee of the executive branch of government, I am not compelled to obey executive orders which are soley for the presidents control over his employees in the Executive branch. All other EO's are null.

Whoever becomes the next president will not have a mandate to do anything. If Bush works with Democrats the way he did in Texas, he may be able to accomplish some things. But Gore doesn't have that kind of personality, and I sure don't see the Republicans cutting him any kind of slack after this election debacle.

Of course, we could have avoided all this if more people had gotten out to vote, or if those who did had done more than just vote.
A friend of mine called to complain about the close election. Did you donate time or money?, I asked. If not, shut up.

I agree most EOs are cr*p, but some EOs we have to live with no matter what. For example, have you tried to get an imported Belgian-made FAL lately?

Have you found that the parkland you used to camp on has suddenly been declared off-limits because an egghead may or may not have seen an endangered spotted dung-eating toad there or the Pres simply feels like it?

Ever felt like a presumptive criminal, knowing that the FBI is busily compiling NICS data at this moment? (not the result of an EO, I know).

Expect it all to get worse. The skulduggery surrounding this election will be fondly remembered as "back when the Democrats played nice."
