Hey all, I found this post over at http://www.packing.org
I thought you might get a little amusement at the hate-filled response of the anti-gunner. You know, the guy who wants to take all our guns away so we can be safe... I don't know if I'd feel comfortable around this guy WITHOUT a gun though ;-)

I came accross a web page outlining efforts to sue the gun industry. I was offended that they were bragging about how they would sue the industry until it collapses. So I wrote a brief message to one of the founding organizations. Look at the response I received! Do you think ANY gun-rights organization would reply in such a way?? Keep in mind this is an "official" response from a "reputable" anti-gun organization! Does the NRA act this way? I think not. I always thought the other side was irrational and childish, and here's the proof....

Haven't you given up this assault on our legal system? Well, today we have a new President, and a Republican House and Senate. We have over 4 million NRA members. There are shall-issue CCW laws in 32 states, with the crime rate declining each year. Millions upon millions of ordinary Americans who vote with their ballot and their pocketbook to protect their rights. Everytime you try to sue or pass a new law, people buy more guns and fight even harder than before. What I'm trying to say is, the jig is up. You will never win!

PS - I just bought a new 32 "Saturday Night Special" today at the Las Vegas Gun Show. One more gun on the street? Yes. A safer America, you bet!

STRUGGLE: to make strenuous or violent efforts against opposition

and on and on into Alice's Wonderland.

Or perhaps he means to fight in a Pythonesque manner - "I (flatulence) in your general DI-rection", etc.

That color? Oh yeah, MAROON (As in "What a . . .").

So I guess before guns were invented there was no violence?
Alexander the Great might feel a little differently.

Be aware that there is a substantial segment of the population that thinks we should all just be drugged so that all our violent and greedy impulses go away. Ritalin is starting to get us there.
 
I sent off this letter:
I wholeheartedly agree that the violence needs to be stopped. Violence has nothing to do with handguns or any other inanimate object, violence has to do with attitude.

Our common objectives need to be instilling self respect and the respect of others in today's youth.
I am afraid that we have lost some our youth to highly addictive drugs and a general lack of upbringing. An addict will come up with a way to get another rock and if violence comes to mind that is the way the person will try to come up with the money or the drugs.

I will be happy to help you any way that I can to stop violence but handguns or any other firearm, knife or any other tool has a thing in the world to do with violence. I am one of the most non violent people you ever would like to meet and I own dozens of handguns.

It's always fun when you can put a face to the email you're reading. Even if this didn't come from Jonathan, I hold him responsible since he is the "executive director" of this organization.

Here we have Jonathan, let's think of him as a young Barney Frank upstart. What an honorable goal to have... to carry on the "proud voice" of your state representative.

Oh my. He's a bit healthy, isn't he. Perhaps we could bring him to the dark side with 2 dozen crispy creams sent in a bushmaster hard case?

I wish that I could be a bit more analytical about this type of situation, but logic and documented rights seem to bounce off people like him. No pun intended.
 
This guy's really ahead of the 8 ball, too...

NOT. Last update to his website was 5/15/00, with an announcement that the new website will be up one week later, 5/22/00. We're now just 4 months short of one year late on that plan. I think his lack of organization shows he's a joker, as are undoubtedly his henchmen.

To whom it may concern,

I hope you understand that getting rid of guns, handguns in particular, will have several consequences. First, and most obviously, it represents a logic that smacks of selective constitutionality--just pick the amendments you don't like, toss them out, and pretend that the other rights will be safe. Throwing out or regulating one right in the Bill of Rights would set a frightening precedent to mark an X through the others. And if you happen to think the 2nd Amendment is outdated, then quit using your computer to write and break out the quills because, under that logic, the 1st Amendment would be outdated, too (but I digress).

Furthermore, the anti-gun crowd must be the bravest group of individuals in the world, worthy of commendation for their collective willingness to say, "I am not armed, nor will I be. That's final." Clearly, anti-gunners are a tough lot who are unafraid of labelling themselves weaponless; I'm sure armed criminals will respect your politics and think twice about predation on such a secure lot of Americans.

Then there's the double standard just in case the secure anti-gunner is preyed upon. I'm sure that placing a call to the police is an acceptable way to skirt the stolid no-guns-allowed platform when victimization occurs. But wait . . . the police are armed. But they're here to protect us, right? But they have guns. And guns are bad. So calling the armed police officer must be bad, too.

Ah, the dilemma.

You can see why they don't want us to have guns. If I had such spiteful nasty thoughts about other people and believed that everyone else was as handicapped as I, I would probably not want them to have guns either.

I'd like to see a proof of that assertation. By "gun nuts" I assume you mean "people who own lots of firearms and are enthusiastic about their hobby" not "people who may own one gun from inheritance or out of fear of crime". Frankly, hobbies that require hundreds or thousands of dollars for each item in the collection seem to be self-selecting for the successful to engage in. Either we "gun nuts" as a group contain a lot of lottery winners and people who have had their doorbells rung by Ed McMahon, or there's a rather different and more educated demographic here than you suspect.

I believe I'd bet on the latter... ;)

Four years ago, I decided to get back into hunting. I bought a Marlin model 1894S rifle. Great little brush gun (and one I've always loved ever since I sold my first one back in '82 - dumb, I know). I also bought a Ruger P89DC for personal/home defense.

This is long before I became a "gun nut." Yet, I also knew exactly what the founders of this nation meant when they wrote the BOR. A little education goes a long way towards understanding. It appears that education is what is lacking in todays society. It shows in all your posts, nogod.

What also shows, is that you are a hit and run artist. You don't stick around in any one thread long enough to responsibly and reasonably debate the issues...just long enough to elicit responses, which I assume by your tactics, you think the responses will be anger.

What's funny, is that the responses have been reasoned without the emotional overtones you had hoped for. What's even funnier, the moderators, like Tamara let you post. I suspect your allowed to continue for the comedy relief you provide.
