Malfunction in my Taurus

I own a PT945 Taurus 45 Cal. After firing about 500 rounds of regular 215 grain ammo, the hammer lost its cocking action, so the pistol actually became a SA that required hand cocking after every shot. the manufacturer honored the guarantee,but gave no explanation. Can any one give me an idea of what happened?
