Malaysian ammo for my Fal. This stuff any good?

I came across some Made in Malaysia ammo in 308 at a local gun shop. The price is 27 bucks for 180 rounds and comes in it's own ammo can. I have never shot this stuff and would probably use it in my FAL is this stuff reliable? Dirty? Corrosive?
I have heard that some types of ammo are not good for use in semi autos like the stuff made in Chile for example.
Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I don't know either but I'm gonna find out just bought 540 rounds myself today. if I can get to the range tomorrow I'll let you know. I wonder what to do with all those links.

well, I've heard that the Machine gun ammo is much less acurate. What is the date stamped on the rim? Are there tracers on there?

I use it and I can't fault it. True, machinegun ammo is made to different specs than rifle ammo but the Malaysian stuff seems quite adequate in FAL out to 400 yds. Haven't tried it on any longer range.

A buddy and I just tested several types of surplus .308 on FALs. I'll post it here in another thread.

I bought 500 rounds of this type of ammo, but I could not get it to extract properly from my Remington 7400 in .308

Some people have told me that (a) the 7400's chamber is very tight and (b) that 7.62x51mm may not function reliably in guns chambered for .308 (I thought that they were both the same).

In any case, Remington hunting ammo and Federal .308 fires without issue in the same gun. It looks like the surplus ammo cases expanded too much on firing to be extracted from the chamber.

I donated the ammo to my local rifle club after telling them of my problems with it. Since then people who have fired it in "Military" style rifles have yet to report any problems.

Been using Malaysian ammo in the fal. Looks crappy but has been reliable. No problems out to 300. Cycles fine. Would not use it in a match but is sure fun to pop off with. I bought over 1200 rnds and have shot about 500. Go for it.

.308 v 7.62

IANAGS (I Am Not A GunSmith), but...

from what I read here previously, 7.62 and .308 are essentially the same thing, but since military tolerances tend to run towards the loose (so rounds will chamber and extract reliably under less-than-ideal conditions), the 7.62 chambers tend to be a tad larger. Also, 7.62 ammo, being massively mass-produced under widely varying QC standards, tends to run a little over-or-under spec. So the milsurp ammo may or may not chamber or extract in 'tight' .308 chambers, even though the baseline models are exactly the same. I think. Something like that.
