I'm looking to upgrade my ruger 1022 I guess I would basically like to start from the ground up and buy the best quality parts for everything. Could anyone give me gereral advice maybe a specific brand or company that is good?
Also if anyone knows what the lightest aftermarket barrel for the 1022 is.
Thanks

start at the kidd web site for firing parts and boyds or hogue for a stock. you should be able to keep it under a grand

Thanks for the help but, I would prefer to build my own and possibly use some existing parts I already have if money becomes an issue.

One thing I benefitted from allot has been the VQ exact-edge extractor.

I would also consider a sythetic bolt buffer if your receiver is aluminum. I really doubt it's even able to be annealed around the holes so putting the factory steel buffer in the softer aluminum holes will open them up over time if you shoot allot.

Third, if you free-float your barrel get one of those "adjustable v-blocks" that support the barrel with a set screw (unless you've managed to thread your barrel into the receiver somehow). Tactical Solutions has them.

People get picky about triggers but I've found the stock one doesn't bother me. You may want to change it out though for something "better."

I've heard of them barrels that are graphite or carbon fiber or whatever. I don't know who makes them or really much about them I do know they weigh right around a pound. Are they any good worth the money or is a heavy barrel better?
