Making a new tube feed spring?

I know there are lots of old tube-fed .22's out there with non-functioning feed springs. Has anyone found something that will work for an outdated rifle where parts are no longer available? I just picked up an old Mossberg Palomino. Lever action tube fed .22 for a great price because of some minor cosmetics. It will load only 2 shells before the spring becomes too weak to feed the next round into the reciever.
I manage a auto-parts store and I've exhausted all of my resources. The spring is approx .25 inches in diameter and about 18 inches long. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Got my new Feed tube spring from Brownells yesterday and installed it last night. No trimming, it was a perfect match and fit. That old rifle functions like new now. Thanks to everyone for the advice!
