Making a Guide Gun -????????

I have on lay-a-way a very nice Sears J.C. HIggins (336C) in .35 Remington (God bless this cartridge GBTC) and I want to do the following:
1. Have the gun made into a take down rifle by a very good gun smith in my area.
2. Have the barrel cut down to 16.5 inches with a half size magazine tube.

Has anyone had their 336 or similar rifle made into a take down rifle?

Will the cutting of the barrel to 16.5 with the .35 Remington (GBTC) have much if any affect on the accuracy out to about 150 yards?

Thanks

There was a special run of Marlins in 35Rem with 16in barrels made not too long ago but I have forgotten the number designation. The shorter barrels must have little or no effect on accuracy,etc... as these rifles are good sellers.

Judge. As long as the barrel is cut off straight, and the crown is properly done, the rifle should lose no accuracy. In fact, the shortening might even make it a bit stiffer, which would enhance accuracy. You will lose some velocity though, maybe about 100 FPS, give or take.

May it please the Court...

Please let us know how much your 'smith charges for the takedown conversion and, if you are happy with it, whether he wants more business. I love the idea, but Wild West Guns charges $500 for the takedown.
