Make your'e own flex tip HP?

I was looking at Hornady's Critical Defense FTX video online and got this idea of putting GOOP contact adhesive and sealant in the hollow of the HP. So I did. the GOOP will settle over night and alittle more needs to be added the next day. after 24hrs. I trimmed the excess GOOP off so bullet will have a flat top. The GOOP still has some flex to it but defenatly sticks to the bullet. Now I need to talk to the range owner and see what we can come up with to test it. I'll be using .38spl., .357mag and 9x18. I'll get pictures of bullets to post. I'm open to all opinions on this.:D

Don't forget to account for the extra bullet weight when you select your powder charge. It's generally considered safer to reduce the weight of a bullet than to make it heavier.

Make a batch and give them to people at the range.

As I've seen from reading posts here - some people will fire anything :)

I don't think the "extra weight" of what, a grain or maybe two in the bullet will lead to a k'boom.

If I was to try this, I'd use non-toxic aquarium sealant stuff. Poisoned bullets are considered "dirty pool" among DAs :D.

Considering all the discussions that have raged over just using your own reloads as self defense ammo, even using stock bullets, I can't help but think that if someone were to use any kind of home-brewed special bullets like this, in any questionable shooting a prosecutor (or plaintiff's attorney) would have a field day. They would portray you as a "gun nut" who was so intent on killing people that you weren't satisfied with factory ammunition, you had to modify it to make it more deadly.

And, in this case, they'd be right. The fact that you were intending to replicate some factory ammo would get lost in the static.

What you are doing is an interesting experiment, but I would never use it as carry ammo.

It depends on whether he used the regular Goop, or the depleted uranium Goop...

:p

And will the goop stay in a neat little point on top of the bullet or flow out around it when the bullet is accelerated down the barrel?

Good advice, thanks's. Glad I only did this to 3 bullets. If i get a chance to try these out for the fun of it I'll let you know the out come. Thank's again, I'll keep it legal, the thought of this was for concealed carry.

As far as now much weight added is too much??

Do a before and after on the weight of 10 of your experimental bullets. Would be interested in how much is really added.

Out of the box bullets I have weighed vary 1 to 1.5 gr, or little more, from heaviest to lightest in most mfgers boxes of bullets. I did get some blems from Lock-Stock-Barrel once that were really good. Out of 500, about 450 weighed right in at 149.something. Wish Id bought some thousands more..
