I need some help. I've looked all over, and I cant find any 1 and 1/4 inch straps that you can cut to size to make your own slings. I need to be able to buy the little hardware things that the strap goes back through as well, and possibly the little pressure clips as well. I'd like longer slings on some of my guns than you can buy. Any sujestions?

:cool:I am new to this, but what do you guys use the sling for other than just carrying the gun around?

holding my old ratty suitcase closed when i fly:cool:

Hanging rifle in a tree branch.
Steadying rifle when firing.
Leaving hands free when climbing steep areas.

This is what I was talking about. Is there a way to use the sling to steady the rifle?

I think I read somewhere that slings were allowed is some shooting competitions and I assumed it would be used in some way during the shot.

Since there are not usually to many obstacles at the range.

Sure, there are lots of ways to do this.
If the form of the competition you are in allows them is a separate issue.

They vary from the uber simple "hasty sling" (where you just push the left (off) hand arm through the sling loop & then tension it by grasping the fore-stock & bringing the elbow down to apply tension) to the custom-made slings designed specifically for match target shooting that you "wear" & then attach to the rifle.

Double loop U.S. 1917 types are popular as well, they can be set up for both carry & support & easily changed to give a preference to either use.
