Check right on this board...got mine here from the 'Hanguns trade/sale area' Fact the guy that sold me mine had one up the other day....

Also some of the gun auctions might help. AuctionArms for one.

AIM Surplus and Empire Arms. Cole Distributing, too. These are for EG Maks though. $139-$159 is fair. Empire usually has the best, but you pay for it and can do just as well elsewhere (but Empire is consistently good, so you are paying not to look very hard).

Wedge,Congrats on the FFL,your going to enjoy it.
I purchased my E.German Mak from SOG in Ohio.
Have had no problems buying from them and their stuff has always been what they said it would. I always pay the $10. extra for handpick. They don't have a web site but you can find them in Shotgun News :)
Hope this helps ;)

I bought the EG Mak from AIM on my C&R, and I paid $159 for the "selected" one. It's in very nice shape, and I think it was a good value for that money.

Did you get a C&R or FFL? If you got a C&R be advised that only EG Maks can be purchased and shipped to you. Bulgie. ChiCom and Russian Maks require a FFL.

Actually it is Russian and East German Makarovs that are C&R eligible. I am looking at a copy of the ATF C&R list and it shows both.

Specifically, the Russian _military_ and East German Makarovs are C&R eligible. The Russian commercial Makarovs, the IJ-70 series, are not C&R eligible. These maks will be stamped "IJ-70" on the slide while the miltary Maks will have a triangle inside a circle stamp on the left side of the frame with the year of manufacture. A good picture of the Russian military Mak can be seen here: http://makarov.com/graphics/Russian_military_Makarov_small.jpg

If you want to purchase one with a C&R, do you obtain the C&R the same way you normally recieve your purchase, pay the police to do another background check, take more time off to return days later, then make your purchase and finally take more time off so the clerk at the police station can copy down the serial number?

No. if you have a C&R you just send the company you want to do business with a copy of it which they keep on file for you. Then all you need to do is pay for the gun and have them ship it to your door.
