Makarov

I've been reading great things about the bulgarian
and russian Makarovs lately.

I just can't seem to find one.

I know Shotgun News has em for $99 but the gun shops I talk to want to more than double that price to order one.

I've been to about 5 gunshows to no avail.

Anyone have any sources or suggestions?

Thanks,

I ordered 3 Bulgarians Maks from J&G Sales a few months back. They arrived in a timely manner in were in excellent condition. They still list them for sale on their website, so I would suggest contacting them. www.jgsales.com Another good place to try is www.southernohiogun.com Good luck.

You have to find a dealer to order one for you. Keep checking around your area until you find one that will order one for you at a reasonable cost. You should not pay more than about $25 for the dealers services (at least in this area).

Both J&G Sales and SOG were out of Maks last week (and have been out for awhile now) but that could change this week. According to the discussion on the Makarov Forum, a major importer, P.W. Arms, released or is releasing 10,000 Bulgarian Maks to its distributors.
Don't know if their prices will change or not.

When you find one (& you will), chances are it will be a Bulgarian gun - either a milsurp or commercial offering. While the milsurp guns have a reputation for having a better finish, the only way to readily tell the difference is that commercial gun will have the word "ARSENAL" on the slide. Other than that, the guns are identical with 100% parts interchangability. Some of the milsurp guns available (at least when I bought mine) were NIB and unissued.

Russian guns come in both flavors too - milsurp & commercial. However, the Russian commercial offering has an adjustable rear sight, and is the only Mak from any country so equipped. Neither is imported anymore, the milsurp gun usually commands a premium as it is considered more rare than the commercial gun.

The East German (EG) guns are usually considered to have the best fit, finish, & triggers of all the Makarovs. Virtually all of these are surplus guns and will vary in condition.

The Chinese were into Makarovs also. These are considered rare, with fit & finish generally lower in quality to the other brands.
