Makarov vs Tokarev

Just curious, for those of you who own these either of these handguns, which do you feel is more fun to shoot?

I've always been fascinated by these handguns (Especially the Tokarev and the 7.62x25 bottle neck cartridge its chambered in)

To my understanding the latter has some ammunition that can really get cooking down range which is quite interesting for something being fired out of a pistol.

That and they're pretty affordable, the history alone would make them worth owning in my eyes.

I really like all of them, but shooting the 7.62x25mm out of the Tokarev and the CZ 52 definitely tops shooting my Makarovs in the fun department. It's a loud round, and it throws a nice big fireball. If you're recoil-averse, no worries, because its bark is much worse than its bite (for the shooter).

I have both. I carry both and while the Mak is more reliable the Tok is fun to shoot. It is VERY accurate and the 7.62 round lets out a nice bang and blue flame but is very soft in the recoil dept. Much more recoil with the Mak.

I have 3 Maks and 4 Toks, and love to shoot them all. But for pure shooting pleasure, the 7.62x25 wins hands down.

Good to hear, boh handguns are tough as nails from what I've read (Tim from MAC blew apart a Makarov by firing it under water apparently and simply pieced it back together and was back in action within seconds. )

Now the real question is which one would I want to pick up first :)

I have a Mak and used to own a Tok.
They are both worth owning. Both are dead reliable.

The 7.62x25 is a great round that is sadly less available than in the past.
9x18 has a reputation of being a "finesse round" and shoots with minimal recoil.

The strong 7.62x25 milsurp is pretty well dried up now.

3 or 4 companies are producing new 7.62x25 but it's milder...

I own (and greatly enjoy) both.
It all depends on what I'm shooting at...for ferrel hogs and such, I love my 7.62x25's (CZ52 or Yugo M57). For target shooting in my pasture, I like the Bulgarian Makarov or CZ82...it's easier to find the brass.

I have both and enjoy shooting them both. I have a P64 in 9x18 and a Polish and Romanian TT33 in 7.62x25. The P64 is in my CCW rotation, it's a better choice than a Tok, you can carry with one in the chamber due to the safety. Flip the safety and you can DA the first round yes the DA is heavy but in a stress situation you'll never notice, at least I hope never to find out for 100% certainty. The Tok, people say you can half cock, but that's not enough in my mind. As far as reliability both are good runners, a great value for the price you can get them for. Ammo isn't much more than a box of 9mm and I reload both so it's even cheaper. I make the Mak brass from 9x19 and if you want you can make 7.62x25 out of 223 brass.
I have to say I'm more partial to the Tok, namely my Romanian. I'm not sure the Polish ones are better like folks say. I'm into less common guns and calibers, and I've had more than one person at the range check out the Tok. One fellow about wet himself when I have him one round. He collects them I guess and didn't have any 7.62x25 yet.
If I were you I'd get one of each, they're relatively cheap and they're not making any more.

I've had handguns that fired 9x18 and 7.62x25. I think the DA/SA 9x18s make more practical carry guns but for fun the SA 7.62x25s win hands down.

Both are great guns. I have one Mak, an East German, and two others chambered for the round. A Polish P-64, and a CZ82.
I have four guns in 7.62X25. Polish, and Romanian Tokarevs, a Yugoslavia M57 Tokarev variant, and a CZ52.
All are fun to shoot, reliable, and reasonably accurate. But basing my answer on just fun shooting, the 7.62X25 Tokarev wins.:D

As with everyone before me, my EG Mak is a beautiful pistol and like shooting it very much but the Tok is just plain fun to shoot. My P 64 is a hand killer, CZ 82 in my opinion the best pistol to hit thr C&R pipeline, P63 neat Walther PP with aluminum frame, SMC in 380 a total PPK type handful of fun, and probably a ton more of the Eastern block pistols not mentioned but get em' soon as the supply is mostly gone.

I like both as well. I have a CZ-82 and a P-64 chambered in 9x18 Mak. I also have a Romanian TT-33 Tokarev with 2 barrels (tok and 9mm para). I love shooting the tok ammo, so the 9mm barrel pretty much sits in the safe. Mak ammo is easier to reload, and quite fun to shoot as well.
