Makarov safety installation...need advice

So I got my Bulgarian Makarov and I cleaned her up good tonight using the guide below. The firing pin is inserted correctly and the safety is in the notch and sitting on the upper lip of the slide. The guide says that considerable force may be needed to push the safety into place. Freaking thing won't budge. Any advice?

Never mind, I got it. I wrapped a blunt screw driver up in a teeshirt and tapped it with a hammer. Problem solved. :)

LOL!! Yeah, sometimes they tend to be a bit, shall we say...sticky?:)\

Can't beat the gun for reliability, though.

That, to me, is the mark a of 'real' mechanic...they know when to use the 'bigger hammer' and when to use some finesse.

My mechanical ability is such that I'd have one of the two following toolkits:
Toolkit 1-a hammer, a vice grip and a bigger hammer.
Toolkit 2-a credit card and the yellow pages.

As I get older and older #2 looks better and better.

LOL! In Soviet Russia...gun buys you!

Manufactured in 1988 in Arsenal, Bulgaria. Shipped to Slovenia in the early 90's and never issued. The current Yugo SKS's also seem to be coming from Slovenia.

Nice pics.

I mull over in my head whether I want to get another. I've had three over the years, am now down to a Baikal .380 that hardly ever gets shot.

My XDS9, with the 8 round magazine, is the same size, is just as reliable, and makes more sense to carry.

Thanks man, it really is a beautiful gun. I can't wait to take her out this weekend; I'm curious to see what a 9x18 feels like out of a pistol with this weight.

It will give you fair whack to the hand, but not unbearable and not excessive. Personally, I have found the Makarovs to be more comfortable to shoot than a Walther PP or PPK.

The best thing about a Makarov is that you can pick up your brass with a magnet. (Most of the time.):D

A Makarov has been my gun of choice for over 25 years now. I bought several Norincos in the late 80s and early 90s when they first became available, then procured several E. German specimens.

You'll like it.:)
