Makarov or CZ83 ???

Have been searching for a makarov to add to my inexpensive
CCW collection, and they seem to be harder and harder to
find. JCArmory is out of the game for awhile and the auction sites have some seriously inflated prices ($159-179 Bulgarian military).
Deerlsayer40 and MP-5 (main Mak sellers on the auction sites) don't seem to want to answer my emails. So here I sit.

All the local places are out and cannot seem to find more. Then I come across a place that has used CZ83 .380's for $179 in good to very good condition ($199 hand picked) with one hich-cap 13rd magazine. Seems like a good deal to me, and from searching the old posts on TFL, it seems alot of you would agree.

How would you compare the two guns (and yes I am more partial to 9x18 then 9x17). How much wider is the *grip* on the CZ versus the Mak. Accuracy, reliability, etc. Thanks.

Hello. I own both guns. I really like the Mak which is a bit less "costly," but the CZ83 gives you a bit more for the slightly higher costs. Both are available in 380 as well as 9x18Mak, although I don't know if that's the case with the guns you mention. The CZ allows for either DA or SA w/cocked and locked capability. Fixed sights out of the box are better on the CZ83 and they were dead-on for me out of the box at 15 yards.
Neither gun has ever jammed or malfunctioned in any way.

If I could only have one, it would be the CZ.

Best.

Like Mr. Camp, I own both. Enjoy shooting both guns. I favor the trigger on the 83...over most of my guns! Really. It's a great gun. (see attached photo--10yds-5rounds-CZ-83-off hand). Accurate too. Try dry firing a CZ-83 and see if you agree. Both blow-back by design and both have a nice snap. The Mak's snap is a bit more pronounced (not much though). The Mak's snap is helped by installing a Pearce grip.
For the money (I pd. $285 for my 83) you should give serious consideration to the CZ. I really like mine, it has the nickel finish and is very easy to maintain.
Good luck!

either/or

at that price with a hard to find pre-ban 13rd mag,i'd go for the CZ83--maks will be around for a while at reasonable prices..but a very good condition CZ83 with hi-cap....run buy now!

Well duh, the answer is obvious!!! Makarov all the way baby!!!!:D The 9mm kurtz is a fine cartridge, but the 9mm Mak is far better!!! Makarovs are a lot more cool than that ugly CZ.:p

One note: The CZ 83 in 9mm Mak uses polygonal rifleing. I tend to avoid such since most of my Mak reloading is done with lead bullets.

I have an EG Mak and the CZ 83 in .380. The accuracy of both never ceases to amaze me. I like the heft of the CZ.

Just FWIW,

OK makarov fans, tell me where to freakin get one!?

And no, JC armory does not have an FFL so they
cannot sell me a Mak. And the auction sights are
full of over priced Bulgies.

check under pistols...then MISC...NIB w/2mags..but no price given, you may have to call tomorrow.
Good luck!

Mak price

the price is 149.99 for the bulgarian mak from kyimports-under handguns go to misc.that's where you will find it.

Sweet, thanks. I may just give them a call.

And I am still laughing about the boycott joke. Although I would change my opinion if someone was to say BUY one of those Maks for me.....hmmm....hmmmm.....any takers? No? Oh well.

Von Fatman,

Things are going quite well, thank you. :)
Mak, and I will be going on a trip next week. I will be going to places where it wouldn't be advisable to advertise the fact that I am armed!!! The compact little Mak will be perfect. :) Deep carry, you know!!!

If you can get them for close to the same price, I'd go with the CZ-83, as its a slightly more civilized gun to shoot. The Maks are hard to beat, however. (but you'll find that recoil in the Maks is not always pleasant; I'd rather shoot a .45.)

Check out http://www.aimsurplus.com

This is a reputable firm specializing in police trade-ins and Curio & Relic weapons. They've got used CZ-83s for well under $200. Good guns. Good company to do business with.

Von Fatman,
Nothing illegal. My friend, and I are providing escort for his sister while she goes on an indian jewlery buying binge!!! There will be quite a few expensive pieces present, and yes, I will be cautious!!!:)
