makarov mag for 9x19

Before you get all excited, I'm NOT going to feed 9x19 into a Makarov!!! I have a CZ-52 and I have a 9x19 barrel for it that doesn't feed too reliably. Since the Mak mags are single stack (like the CZ-52), I was thinking of using a Mak magazine as a starting point for a 9x19 mag for my CZ-52. Before I ordered a Mak mag, I thought I would at least find out if the 9x19 rounds would even fit in it ... I think the 9mm makarov rounds are a little shorter. If any of you have a Makarov and a supply of 9x19 and a chance to drop a few rounds into the mag, I'd truly appreciate the info.
Thanks,

I had a CZ-52 in the 7.62x25 - it uses the same mags as the 9mm. I don't think the Makarov mags will fit in the CZ pistol. The 7.62x25 is a bottle neck cartridge - it is my understanding that they are the same as 9mm (or at least very close) at the base of the cartridge. You would probably have much better luck getting additional CZ mags and tweaking them to work - or get the dremel out and work on the feed ramp. There is a good article at www.makarov.com on the mods necessary to get the federal barrels to feed reliably on the maks, might apply to you too.

Good Luck,

The Mak magazine will not hold 9x19 (too short front to back), and the magazine will not work in a CZ52 anyway because it is...too short front to back! :)

I should have added that your best bet would be to add a spacer to the 7.62x25 magazine--in the rear--to allow the 9x19 cartridges to fit more precisely in the 7.62 mag. This is how it is normally done when converting a pistol originally chambered for a longer cartridge than the one currently being used. For example, if you look at 9x19 mags for the 1911 style pistol you will find there is a convex spacer that runs down the inside back wall of the mag to allow the 9x19, whicy is shorter than the .45ACP, to work properly in the mag. The same kind of spacer could be used ion the 7.62 mags for the CZ52.

Thanks for the input ... I realized that the Mak mag would be too short, but it seemed that it might be easier to add a teflon strip to the back of the mag thereby maintaining the position of the lips with respect to the feed ramp and minimizing the distancce that the poor cartridge needed to free-fly before it got home. It sounds like the spacer inside the CZ-52 mag might be the next best bet ... I'll take one apart and see if the spring and follower will allow for this ... I think it will end up being a pretty thick spacer ... maybe a Mak follower and spring will be in order?
Thanks for the input,
