Is it possible to convert a 9x18 Makarov to .380 simply by installing a .380 barrel? Several of us got into a debate about the possiblity of this, and I thought I would ask here given the knowledge and experience you folks have.

Is it even possible to convert a Mak to .380 at all? I have seen one at a gunshow that was chambered in .380, but I beleive it was a factory gun, not a conversion.

Any thoughts on this?

Seems to me that Makarov.com was selling the .380 conversion barrels. I dunno if they still are or not though......

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Requires a barrel press, a new barrel, and a lot of patience. Mags will work for either calibre.

Admittedly, .380 ammo is easier to find, but 9x18 Mak ammo is abundant and cheap at gun shows and shops. Why convert?

Why convert?

Just out of random curiousity, really. Most likely will stick with 9x18 if I buy one. Just a thing I had heard about and was curious.
I'd really prefer the 9x18, easier to hoard and stockpile :D Besides it's cheap and I shoot A LOT. :D
