MAJOR problem with MKII!- Twisted Barrel!

I never would have believed it if it had not happened to me. I posted earlier about an ejection problem mith my Ruger MKII, Gov, Target Model. Well, it was not a spring, or extractor problem. The barrel has rotated in the receiver!!!!! I was shooting it today, tring to narrow the problem down, when I noticed that the front sight was leaning to the right. I thought the screw had worked its way loose again, and it was shooting 3-4 inched to the left at 25 feet! I came in and lokked at the sight, and it was tight. I removed the sight and sighted down the barrel, and sure enough, the screw hole is off to the right! Near a full hole width at that!!! After inspecting closer, I could see where the extractor was hiting the top of the cut-out, and that the cut-out is no longer a perfect rectangle.

The question now is what do I do with the gun. It is about 4 years old, and has some battle scars, but never gave me a problem till now. Should I contact Ruger, or take it back to the shop where it was bought?

ZipTie,

I was looking at a MKII in a gun shop and noticed it's front sight was leaning to the right - I passed on it.

They got another one in and the front sight was leaning to the left! I bought it, anyway, thinking that the sights were just a little off and I could adjust it with the screws. (I haven't tried it, yet.)

I hope it doesn't have a twisted barrel.

Well, the barrels are not "twisted", they have simply unscrewed a bit, or not be screwed in properly. Sip, send the gun back to Ruger; they will likely fix it free of charge. The fix is pretty simple, but a DIY job is not recommended.

Thanks all. I will contact Ruger first thing tomarrow. I'll keep you posted on what happens. BTW, whats the average turn around time for them?

Turnaround s/b about 2wks; unless something develops.

My first handgun, a Ruger 512; since purchase had always had some slop; loose play between barrel and grip. Never seemed to affect accuracy; sights are on the barrel.
Several months ago I decided finally I was irritated with this.
Called first, described situation, woman responding remarks that it sounds like a "no charge" repair. I send it in.

About 2 wks later it's back; barrel now tightly aligned with grip assembly. Afraid to strip and clean.

Also included a copy of work order; showing OTHER internal parts being replace. Gun shoots same as before; only now the mags don't drop free. Maybe in time......
