Majic, et al, can I impose? S&W ?

OK. I have a M10-11, 38 Special, 2", blued with round butt. Ser.# CDT32XX. This was a special order. SO9316 This revolver seems to be a transitional revolver. It should have a angled thumblatch, instead there is a standard thumblatch. It came with PachMayr Compac grips, Uncle Mikes and a set of checkered wood grips. It was NIB, papers and a Master lock included. The usual S&W kraft paper wrapping and a blue hard plastic case. My question is two-fold. When was the CDT prefix used and does this sound like a good candidate to have lettered? This revolver has been fired. The firing pin is frame mounted. It is a nice and accurate revolver. It is the best "new" S&W I have seen. The wide and smooth trigger may be one reason the action is so smooth.

Factory letter

Hello:
A factory letter will add value to a handgun and will cost 30.00. It also may not give much information as your gun was and end of the run parts revolver being a transition model and the frame may be older as S&W pre stamp's them when they crank up a run on that nodel. I guess it comes down to parting with 30.00.. hope this helps.. Regards, Hammer It. :p

Your weapon dates to between NOV of 1999 and JAN of 2000,
the dates for CDR and CDW serial prefixes.

Best Wishes,

Thanks! The information I have found is that this was a run for a larger dealer. I think this might be worth a factory letter.

As a special order item it wouldn't be a transition model. The distributor that ordered the lot specified what items they wanted on the revolvers. A factory letter may be of some value later down the road, but for now with the revolver only 4 or 5 years old it wouldn't add any value. Pricing should be no different than any other M10. I would keep the whole package together for the future.
Being so new and knowing it was a special ordered batch for a distributor you could probably find out the specifics of the revolver without a factory letter.

Thanks Majic! The revolver left the factory with a angled thumblatch I have found out. The factory grips were only the Uncle Mikes. I guess I have a owner modified revolver. It is a smooth action. I can give S&W credit for this one. Nice work.
