Having been reared in the day of polished blue steel revolvers, my grandfather's advice has become an 11th Commandment with me: "Thou shalt not put a gun away before wiping it down with an oily rag, or it will rust." At the local gunshop yesterday I saw the kind of thing we've all seen many times: a 1975 polished blue BHP in perfect shape, except for the rust pitting that resulted when a previous owner violated the 11th Commandment.
But what about maintaining finishes more modern than polished blue steel? I'm not sure I can think of a reason to wipe oil on materials like Bruniton (Beretta's baked enamel over parkerizing), blackened stainless, anodized aluminum, titanium, etc.
So, how should modern finishes be maintained? Oil? Silicone cloth? Left dry?
TIA.
