Magtech, a "dirty" ammo?

Just wanted to know if anyone here has felt that this ammo is any dirtier than other brands. I have so noticed. Sometimes I get a few spare boxes of the stuff we use at work (Fiocchi NATO spec), shoot them, and when back at home for the cleaning, I notice much less powder residue with the Fiocchi than with the Magtech. It's the regular blue box Magtech stuff.

The bad news is that this Magtech 124grs is what I get at a reasonable price (13€ a box of 50 rounds) and I don't know if this will get any better when I start reloading. As far as I know, the Vectan BA9 is what most people uses here, although I don't know for what reason, but I suspect price and availability.

Inputs appreciated.

Assume you're using 9mm. Magtech is dirty. But who cares; clean your guns after shooting you're good to go.

Reloading you will probably still save a little, especially reusing "free" brass. And it will certainly be cleaner.

^ Yes, it's 9mm. Sorry for that. It's good news if it'll be cleaner with the handloading stuff.

I know it's no big deal and that it just takes that little bit more to clean, but the cleaner, the better.

I have actually found Magtech to be relatively clean-burning.

PMC, Prvi Partizan, Win USA, Rem UMC, those are the dirty rounds.

I have found using magtech is cleaner than wwb. At waly world i can buy winchester white box value pack for $19.97. 9mm 100 rounds. 19 rounds to a mag in the XDM 9 3.8 it sure goes fast.....

The Mag-Tech stuff seems "middle of the road" for residue. Spray some solvent and let it sit for a couple minutes before doing your regular cleaning if your gun is really filthy. Let the chemicals do the hard work.

I don't think Mag-Tech is especially dirty ....based on what I'm hearing from buddies that don't reload - they seem to think it is ok.

I primarily shoot my own reloads ...but if I was looking for factory ammo for some reason / I wouldn't have any reservations about Mag-Tech.

Maybe I am confusing Mag tech with something else. I haven't fired factory much since I started reloading, at the beginning there I had UMC, Tula, Magtech, and several others. Nothing seems as clean as my reloads though, so I definitely think you'll see an improvement.

I am in the semi auto ammo is dirty regardless of the brand you buy camp. Some may be a little more sooty than others. A can of Break Free Carbon Blaster and a barrell brush will clean it out just the same.

Heck I reload, my reloads are just as dirty. I use Bull's Eye a lot. Some solovent, and brush followed by a couple of wet pathces, then a dry patch. Follow with a ligthly oiled patch, follow with a dry patch. Cleaned in under 5 minutes.

It is dirty but I haven't had any problems with it. You have to clean your gun after shooting any way so who cares if it is a bit dirtier than others.

I hope it does get better when I start reloading. I guess it'll depend on what powder is used. Most of the reloaders I know use this Vectan BA9 I mentioned and it's likely that I'll end up using the same stuff.

Magtech Guardian Gold; Massad Ayoob, all carry ammunition...

I used a NIB(new in box) package of Magtech Guardian Gold .38spl +P in 2005/2006 as duty ammunition.
It wasn't any better or worse as far as the quality of the cases.
IMO, the "special purpose" ExtremeShock USA .38spl rounds were much worse.

Any carry or duty handgun rounds will get dirt, grit, wear, discoloration over time. Author, sworn LE officer & use of force instructor; Massad Ayoob made the point about carrying a .38spl J frame in a ankle rig compared to a .380acp Walther PPK many years ago.
The main thing is to check or inspect carry/duty rounds often.
I'd rather spend $10-20.00 & replace carry ammunition then have it jam or fail in a protection sidearm.

magtech is clean burning ammo.... you are right about tula ammo.....when i shoot it in my .30 carbine blackhawk it gets real dirty and the cases stick in the cylinders....

Yeah Tula is the cheapest 'round these parts. It feels like toy ammo, and I wouldn't use it for anything heavier duty than paper targets, but it can be had for around $11-12 US, so like 60% of the cost the OP is paying for Magtech. I only see Magtech at the range I go to, which they charge exorbitantly ridiculous prices for (I think right around $25-27 for .45 and right around $22-23 for 9mm). As far as I'm concerned? I'm getting into reloading sooner rather than later.

Indeed--but it's cheap range ammo (reliable at that IMHO) so that is to be expected. I shoot a lot of Wolf SG Ammo for trap and it's the same story.

I used to shoot them as range ammo in my .44 Mag before I got into reloading. I still buy a box every now and then when I need more cases to reload ( when I can find them). They don't seem any dirtier than the Hornady or federal ammo I have shot. As far as cases go, I get about the same life from them as I do others.
