Magnum research owners and a gold finish question

Just wondering what impressions you might have on a DE. I realize that the gun is rather large and is more of a range and show gun than anything else...but could it be used for hunting you think? How do you like yours or someones that you have shot? Do you think that it is too much $$$ for what you get?

And the finish question. I notice that the DE is available in gold and something called gold titanium finish. I thought that it looked rather sweet but was skeptical about how that finish holds up against wear etc... anybody delt with this finish? What do you think of that finish? Does any other gun manufacturer or model come with that option? Or is that something you could get custom? If so, can you post a link. Wonder how much something like that would cost. hmmmmm

Thanks

i wish i got my DE in the silver chrome finish, with the gold appointments, it looks just plain classy.
Alas, mine is black.
It's a great gun, it shoots very fast and stays flatter than you'd expect a 44mag to because of its weight.

ONE complaint- Winchester white box ammo, it used to eat that up no problem. I bought some of it over the past 6 months, the gun kept jamming, I couldnt figure out why.

I just realized about a month ago, when i decided to use it again, that the brass is all bulging. It appears to be total JUNK brass.
I had one case split from top to bottom. This is brand new factory garbage. Winchester must have switched to much cheaper brass, and now it renders my gun useless if I try to use it in the gun. The brass bulges all uneven and won't extract.
AVOID WINCHESTER WHITE BOX!

The gold-colored finish is titanium nitride.I've 2 DEs-an old .357 Magnum and a very new .50 AE.Love em both.I'd take on any creature in North America with the .50 AE.(most foreign creatures, too, for that matter)

Mattjoe.......if you have saved the bad cases and the unfired rounds, might behove you to get ahold of Winchester and tell them of your problems. Whether a gun related problem or an ammo problem, they should work with you toward resolution of the problem.

JMBrowning,

Mag Research does plate a DEP in Gold but it is a shiny polished finish. The Gold Titanium is the duller titanium nitride finish.

Titanium nitride being an extremely hard finish, i.e. wear resistant, I would imagine, if Mag Research also coated the inside of the frame and slide, that it would last longer the the regular DEPs.

My DE (a 50AE) has the bright chrome finish. I didn't care for the titanium nitride, but was choosing between the brushed chrome (dull silver) and polished chrome (the bright silver). I just went for the bright chrome because I liked it better.

Anyway, there is no legitimate purpose to owning a DE (especially a .50), except for the fact that you can't stop smiling and giggling after touch off a few rounds with one. They are so loud and fun!

PS They're expensive too. Forget about the grand and change for the gun. Ammo averages 17 bucks per box of 20 (though I found a cheaper place but they're all out).
