magnum research BFR 4570

Anyone here have any experience with the magnum Research BFR in 45/70?

It looks like a neat toy for target shootingand some deer hunting.
I already roll my own 45/70's so quality ammo is not a problem.

Anyone ever handle on of these beast? how does it perform?

Thanks.

:D

I like it. Using Stiff loaded 45-70 ammo can be a bit challanging if you not used to hand cannons. The recoil is more of a hard push than the kind of painful snap like you get from the light alloy guns. Mine is the 7 1/2" and has been quite accurate though I have never tried it past 50 yards.

PS - welcome

Thanks, Glad I found this place.
There is not too much info out there on these guns.

Trying to educate myself a little before I run out and buy something.

DEER? Heck that gun will knock an elk on his you know what even with a cowboy load. I havent shot one but have been very impressed with the ones I've handled. Being that you reload for it I'd say your ahead of the game and could get alot of use out of it. Plus if you ever want to shoot CAS with it, it makes sense to have a rifle and pistol in the same caliber.:):D

My only concern is getting a complete powder burn out of such a short barrel.

The .30-30 does not perform well out of pistols, was wondering if anyone had any troubles out of the buffalo round?

I like it. I've got the 10½"er and load it "light" with 26.0 grains 2400/CCI-200/cast 405 grain plain base FN bullet. This is a very pleasant load to shoot and still clocks around 1250 fps.

that round ought to do a number on a Hog, I've got wild hogs running out of my ears.

Do you carry that big Ole pistola in a holster? If So, what type?

I carry mine in a bandolier rig of my own design. One bandolier, and several different holsters for it.

Don't know if you've tried it yet but if you search for the following:

BFR 45-70

in the search function you should find a host of potentially useful threads.

Jbar4Ranch, over six years ago you posted the photo above. I am wondering if you would be willing to share the pattern for that BFR holster, if you still have it. You can reply to me directly at halice@halice.com. Thanks!

I shot one a friend has-with a 10 1/2" barrel. Recoil was NOT as bad as I had expected-a big ole rolling push. No 'slap' or wrist-wrenching yank or twist.

Accuracy? Amazing! I'd love to have one for deer/hogs and maybe for something bigger if I got the chance.
