Magnum caps vs. standard

Was at a gun shop recently and bought some CCI Magnum # 11 caps. Should these only be used w/ML rifles, or can they be used w/cap & ball revolvers? Will it significantly increase pressures? I only use real BP, and the revolvers are steel-framed.

I bought some Winchester #11 Magnum (relabeled CCI) caps to use on my ROA. They are fine to use on a BP revolver. I personally didn't like them because of the number of misfires on first hammer strike. Second hammer strike on the misfires always made them ignite. Problem was that the caps wouldn't consistently seat all the way down so sometimes the first hammer strike seated the cap then the second strike ignited them. I didn't have this problem with Remington #10 or #11's.

"Magnum" caps have no effect on pressure output by the powder. They may have a hotter output, possibly leading to a greater likelihood of ignition, or conversely, lower probability of a FTF.

Someone posted this and I found it interesting so now I like to repost it.
So let's live and learn! :)

On page 83 of DaveEhrig's book "Muzzleloading for Deer & Turkey", he lists some information on percussion caps and primers.

#11 standard cap - 6.53 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.
#11 magnum cap - 7.59 cc of gas at 3,717 degrees F when fired.
U.S. #2 musket cap - 14.36 cc of gas at 3,717 degrees F when fired.
#209 shotgun primer - 21.98 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.
#200 rifle primer - 11.68 cc of gas at 3,024 degrees F when fired.

i tell you what

I CANT TELL YOU A DAMN BIT OF DIFFERENCE

i might as well just mix them all up the magnums and the regulars. when i pull the trigger the gun still goes bang and i cant feel any difference except. ooooohhhhh wooooooo woooowwwww thats a magnum cap

To the naked eye - the only difference I have ever been able to see was that the CCI #11 Mags have more compound in the cup than the Standards do.
I switched to the Mags with my Knight rifle years ago and never went back to the standards - I felt more scure in ignitioin knowing that some of the Standands had almost no compound in them.
After my first can of standards on my 1858, I started using the Mags on it too and again, have never looked back - never had a misfire with 'em yet and there was no perceptable difference in firing or ballistics compared to the standards.

Thanks

I appreciate all the replies to my inquiry about the magnum caps. When I go back to that gunshop, I think I'll see if he has more of them, as they were a little cheaper than the standard ones.
